EMPLOYEE OF THE OFFICE OF THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY SUSPENDED DUE TO ALLEGED INVOLVEMENT WITH ILLICIT DRUGS

An employee of the Legislative Assembly has been suspended on 15 May 2024 pending a formal police criminal investigation, over their alleged involvement with illicit drugs.

The Speaker and the Office of the Legislative Assembly is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability. It will not tolerate or condone any activities involving illicit drugs. The actions of this employee are not representative of the values of the Legislative Assembly and this Office.

The Office of the Legislative Assembly will continue to uphold the principles of transparency and accountability in all aspects of its operations. It is committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of the public and will take all all-necessary steps to ensure that its employees conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the values and principles of the Legislative Assembly as well to comply with the Laws of Tonga.
