MEETING ON MONDAY 15 DECEMBER 2025 TO ELECT THE PRIME MINISTER DESIGNATE

The Interim Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Lord Tangi ‘o Vaonukonuka has issued a notice for a meeting of the Elected Representatives to be convened on Monday 15 December 2025, at 10:00am at the Legislative Assembly of Tonga. The notice was issued after the nomination period for Elected Representatives to submit their nomination of candidates for Prime Minister Designate closed today, Friday 12 December 2025, at 4:30pm.

A total of two written nominations of candidates for Prime Minister Designate were received. The first written nomination was received on Thursday 4 December 2025, and the second written nomination was received on Wednesday 10 December 2025. The details of these two nominations will be disclosed in the meeting set down for Monday.

The election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly will be held at the same meeting, following the announcement of the elected Prime Minister Designate.

This meeting will be broadcasted live on radio, livestream and social media.
