TONGATAPU 2 MP today thanks the members of the Legislative Assembly for the special programme in Parliament to greet the Ma’a Tonga last Thursday.

Sēmisi Sika who is also the President of Tonga Rugby League says the players felt special when they were hosted inside Parliament Chamber.

“Although it was not part of the official programme, the players felt the special treatment and support they received from Parliament including a group photo with the Patron of the Tonga Rugby League Committee, Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala,” says Sēmisi Sika.

On behalf of the Tonga Rugby League Committee, Sēmisi Sika thanked the Speaker and MPs for the support given.

Tongatapu 2 constituency MP also expresses heartfelt gratitude to the Members of Cabinet for the great financial contribution of TOP$250,000.00 for the team.

He adds although they are seeking TOP$500,000 to cover for the travel expenses the donation from Government is a big help.

“It will be used for the preparation of the team to become good ambassadors representing Tonga in the upcoming event,” explained Sēmisi Sika.

Meanwhile the Minister for Internal Affairs, Lord Vaea announces that Cabinet has allocated TOP$400,000.00 towards promoting sports.

That includes TOP$250,000.00 donation for allowances of the Mate Ma’a Tonga team, TOP$100,000.00 for ‘Ikale Tahi and TOP$50,000 for the Winter Olympics.

The Mate Ma’a Tonga team leaves Tonga for New Zealand tomorrow morning.

According to Semisi Sika, the team will spend two days there to raise fund from the Tongan Community in Auckland.
