AN investigation expert of the Federal Australian Police is to oversee all investigation into the death of a New Zealand constable who died at the weekend, said the Hon. Acting Prime Minister, Samiu Vaipulu this morning.
The deceased is a Tongan, Kali Fungavaka who was assaulted in the Nuku’alofa police station cell after being arrested on a minor drunkenness charge, Saturday August 18th. He later died from severe head injuries that needed surgery at Vaiola hospital last Thursday.
Hon. Vaipulu said the Australian government funds the attachment of the expert to Tonga,
“It is is a result of a joint effort between the Tongan Police Commissioner and Pacific Islands Police Commissioner’s meeting in the Solomon Islands last week,”
