King George Tupou V to open Parliament

HIS Majesty King George Tupou V will officiate at the State opening of the Legislative Assembly. The Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed that King George V has consented for Thursday 2nd of June, 2011 to be the date for the State Opening.

It may be recounted there was a soft opening of the Legislative Assembly on the 13th of January 2011, but that was the first usual first session after a General Election, as directed by the second paragraph of Sec. 14 of the Legislative Assembly Act 2010, for administrative arrangement and urgent businesses.
