A call has been made for the people to elect all members of Parliament including the Nobles.
Tongatapu 10 MP Semisi Tapueluelu highlights this when he presents his constituency’s parliamentary visit report in the House on Thursday, 13 October 2011.
Tapueluelu responded to a question put to him by the Hon. Minister of Labour, Commerce and Industries, ‘Isileli Pulu regarding the top priority concerns raised by his constituency.
In response, Tongatapu 10 MP said the issue was raised during a meeting at Kolonga.
“More importantly is for ordinary citizens to elect all Noble representatives to the Legislative Assembly so full democratic government can be achieved and from there government could be
more transparent and accountable to the people,” explained Semisi Tapueluelu
However this prompted a strong opposition of the report from the Minister of Lands, Survey and Natural Resources Hon. Ma’afu Tukui’aulahi.
He said this is an unfounded report and therefore not of different nature from Tongatapu 1 MP,‘Akilisi Pohiva’s controversial report.
Tongatapu 10 MP said the issue raised from his electorate showed that people wants to voice their concern to help combat corruption and eventually lead to good governance.
