TO improve parliamentarian’s access to ICT services for the poor is the aim of a generous donation from the Secretariat of the South Pacific (SPC) to the Legislative Assembly this morning.
This is through the European Union (EU) funded project in support of the African, Carribean and Pacific (ACP) countries Tonga included.
SPC - ICT Outreach Coordinator, Siaosi Sovaleni today donates a Sony laptop and a 1 TB external hard drive worth about T$6000 to the Acting Speaker of Parliament, Lord Tu’i'afitu.
Sovaleni says the assistance is to support Tonga’s Parliament initiatives to better their service and outreach program.
Sovaleni says this is EU ICT project response to a request from Parliament in May this year.
“It is to support and to improve access to ICT services for the poor by adopting and improving government policy and legislation,” said Siaosi Sovaleni.
In accepting the gift, the Acting Speaker of the house, Lord Tu’i'afitu thanked SPC on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament for their contribution as this would help with the efficiency and effectiveness of Tonga’s Legislative Assembly.
