Tonga Development Partners pledges millions as Budget Support

ABOUT TOP$ 40 million grant have been pledged from Tonga’s Development Partner as Budget support.

The Honourable Finance Minister Sunia Fili revealed this in Parliament yesterday.

He said European Union EU has pledged TOP$12.8 million towards Tonga’s Budget support, TOP$9.7 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and about TOP 17 million from the World Bank.

At the same time, the World Bank has also pledged about USD$27 million towards the fibre cable project from Fiji to Tonga.

All these grants will be finalised in a signing agreement ceremony during the Pacific Island Forum meeting in Auckland, New Zealand next month.

The Hon. Finance Minister also thanked the Hon. Prime Minister and his delegation in negotiating these grants for Tonga during their missions overseas.
